A Plant-Forward Environmental Movement

Trail running is a sport and hobby that is based on nature, so let's start acting like it.

This is how we'll do it, with an ever evolving framework which demonstrates how to demand less from the planet and natural world, through radical, durable solutions that put the environment and biodiversity first.

Join the circle — learn about nature, share what you know, and help protect the trails.

Our Mission

Our mission is to launch a new environmental project every few months that are actionable, with each one showing that we can ask less of the planet than current options in trail running.

The narrative around trail running and outdoor pursuits has been dominated by products and brands, with virtually nothing about the actual wild places we move through or the issues biodiversity and the environment are facing, we want to change that.

Each year, there’s a little less wilderness on the trail, there is less birdsong, fewer flaps of butterfly wings, fewer wildflowers on the trail edge and insects amongst them. The landscape is changing, and we’re running through what’s disappearing.

For The Trail exists to change that, it's an environmental movement of actionable projects and community-driven resources to protect and restore the places we run.

The site is divided into three paths, Runners, Brands, and Events, each with its own projects, tools, and actions for real change.

Join the CIRCLE — our community space where we share knowledge, learn about nature, and collaborate on the projects that make a difference.

Runners

We create an actionable resource that shows how runners can ask less of the natural world. As well as connecting through the first trail running community built around biodiversity and tackling environmental issues. Together, we can make trail running lighter on the earth.

Brands

We look at how brands in trail running can make products that ask less of the planet and show first hand how they can do this with examples like DirtBags.
